Link day
I finally found my camera. For some reason it was in the boys’ room.
Anyway, here’s the picture of my backyard sweet potato harvest (click to enlarge):
That’s just the ones from the back yard. The small ones I’m saving to plant next year. Even though it doesn’t look like much I was still pretty happy with it.
It’s good to know what grows in your particular yard. I didn’t do well with regular potatoes this year, they got drowned and rotted. The sweet potatoes, on the other hand, loved my yard — the vines grew everywhere.
Here’s the links I found this week. I’m having trouble making the links open in a new page like they usually do, so be careful:
Elderly man killed for watering his lawn
According to CNN, a 66 year-old man was beaten to death on his front lawn by his 36 year-old neighbor for watering it…
Georgia Governor prays for rain
What to do when the rain won’t come? If you’re Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, you pray.
The governor will host a prayer service next week to ask for relief from the drought gripping the Southeast.
“The only solution is rain, and the only place we get that is from a higher power.”
‘Dim light’ movement spreading across US
A desire for a starry night and concern about rising energy prices are prompting a growing number of cities and counties to dim their lights at night.
The “dark-sky” movement aims to make the Milky Way visible to more people across the USA - and save money at the same time by switching to low-intensity outdoor lighting.
Hundreds of cities and counties are trying to curb bright lights, and at least a dozen states - California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico and Texas among them - have lighting laws covering highways and state projects.
Rechargeable batteries are a great idea. One less thing to have to buy, one less thing to dump in the landfill. But the reality of rechargeable batteries for general use leaves something to be desired. I mean, if you’re like me, you don’t know the batteries in your CD player are getting low. One day the thing just stops working. So you go to the drawer or bin or cupboard where you keep the rechargeables, and you pop them into the player. (Some of you are saying, “CD player? … Oh, like an old fashioned iPod, only lame.” Yeah, that.)
So you pop the rechargeables in and… they don’t work.
I’ve ordered that solar recharger from CCrane. I’ll let you know how it works.
Well, that’s it for today. Hope your weekend is restful.
